Pulaski Man Arrested After Grabbing For Deputy’s Gun

A Pulaski man was taken into custody during the holiday weekend after he allegedly grabbed for a deputy’s firearm while being placed under arrest.

Reports show that Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched Sunday evening as backup for a Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper who had attempted to conduct a traffic stop, and was dealing with several unruly individuals. Deputies made their way to Peach Road at “Peach Beach” in the eastern portion of the county shortly before 7:00 p.m.

When they arrived, deputies report they were forced to park their police cars due to the fact that the roadway was washed out, then proceed on foot for around two miles.

When they made contact with the Trooper, he requested that they take the suspect into custody “for his conduct prior to our arrival.” They report that he was “obviously intoxicated and belligerent.”

They indicate he acted aggressively toward them and appeared to have already been involved in an altercation. He reportedly had dried blood on his hands but told deputies he was uncertain whether it was his blood or someone else’s.

Deputies report they ordered the suspect, Timothy Merl Green, to sit down in the Trooper’s car, but that he refused to do so. When they attempted to put him inside the car, the reporting deputy indicates, “he did attempt to release my firearm from my holster, in the process popping open my belt keepers.”

The deputy continues, “When he placed his hand on my firearm we immediately took him to the ground.”

Green was transported by members of the Lawrence County Ambulance Service to Crockett Hospital after complaining of back pain. He received medical evaluation and was then transported to the Lawrence County Jail. There he was booked under charges of resisting arrest issued by deputies and charges issued by the Trooper, including that of resisting a stop.

Once He had made bond Green was transported to the Giles County Sheriff’s Department where he was served a state warrant charging him with two counts of forgery.

Green is scheduled to answer the Lawrence County charges through General Sessions Court on August 27, 2010.
