Groundbreaking ceremonies for the Southern Tennessee Higher Education Center are set for Monday, June 4

Groundbreaking ceremonies for the Southern Tennessee Higher Education Center are set for Monday, June 4, at 11:30 a.m. Local officials will be joined by Governor Bill Haslam and representatives of Columbia State Community College, Tennessee Tech University, Middle Tennessee State University, Martin Methodist College and area TCATs (Tennessee College of Advanced Technology).

The public is encouraged to attend Monday’s event.  The site is located in the southwest corner of the Highway 43/Highway 64 Bypass intersection; accessible from Highway 64 (west of the intersection) or via Union Carbide Road from Highway 43 (south of the intersection). If you are using a GPS, the address is 225 Eagle Factory Road, Lawrenceburg.

This first 40,000 sq. ft. building will house courses from the colleges and universities visiting on Monday. A second building now in the planning stages will house TCAT courses. The long-range plan calls for a total of 13 buildings on the 45-acre site, as shown in this illustration. The campus will include additional college/university and TCAT facilities, and three student housing buildings.  All will be constructed as the student body grows.
