Resident Reports Dog Shot In Summertown Neighborhood

A call regarding the shooting of a family pet brought law enforcement officers to a Summertown home late last week.

The owner reported the matter to deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department on Friday. She said that around 7:00 p.m. she had noticed that one of her dogs was in distress. She said the dog had collapsed near her front door.

Examining the animal, she found that he had sustained a small hole in the rib area of his right side. She told deputies she believed the dog had been shot.

When the report was being taken, the deputy noted that the owner’s son had transported the dog to a veterinarian for examination.

The dog owner told deputies that she had been having difficulties with a particular neighbor. Another neighbor reported seeing a vehicle moving slowly through the area earlier in the day.

The vehicle description, reports show, matched the one driven by the neighbor with whom the victim had experienced past problems.

Investigation into the matter is continuing currently through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
