Charges Pending In Friday Crash

Officials report that charges are pending against a Lawrenceburg teen who allegedly crashed into a utility pole while intoxicated Friday.

Reports show that an officer was driving along Hickory Drive when he heard the crash on Fall River Road at approximately 2:43 p.m. The officer reports he pulled to Fall River Road and found that power lines were down. The driver of a truck had stopped in order to render aid to the injured, and a 1988 Chevrolet S-10 truck was in the ditch.

A witness reported he had followed the truck from Fall River Market and that the passenger had been riding with his door open and his foot hanging out the door. As they approached the Hickory Drive intersection, the witness reported the driver veered across the roadway, struck a utility pole, then ended up in the ditch. The passenger, he said, was ejected from the truck. Officers noted that the passenger was walking about the scene and appeared to be coherent.

The driver had sustained a head wound and was bleeding from the head. When the truck caught fire, the officer and the other driver were able to remove the injured man from the truck and carry him to safety.

Both crash victims were transported by ambulance to Crockett Hospital for medical attention. When the reporting officer spoke with the driver at the emergency room, he reports that the man, age 18, stated he “had too much to drink” and that he had taken some unknown type of pills. He also allegedly told ambulance personnel that he had smoked marijuana.

Officers indicate the driver did submit to blood tests, as required by law. They report that “Charges are pending, pending results of the tests.”

Damages to the utility pole are estimated to total $1,000.
