Authorities Seek Source Of Graffiti

Lawrenceburg law enforcement officials are working to determine the source of graffiti that resulted in hundreds of dollars in damages at various locations early Sunday.

Reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department show that the first of three complaints regarding the graffiti was filed around 7:00 a.m. by officials with the City of Lawrenceburg.

Employee Chris Shafer told officers that he had been conducting a routine check of city buildings when he discovered the graffiti painted on the west side of the Old Crockett Theater at 221 North Military Avenue. The word “Shedd,” Shaffer reported, had been spray painted in black paint. Damages there were estimated to be $11.00

Around 6:00 p.m. officers were summoned to Lawrenceburg Public School on Prosser Road. Principal Gary Lynn reported that graffiti had been discovered on the east wall of a storage building and on the north side of the gymnasium. There, the word “Shedd” had been painted three times. On a basketball court, Lynn said four swastikas had been painted in green paint along with a devil-like image and the word “sleezy.”

Officers report finding a can of black spray paint lying in the grass, just north of the vandalism. The item was seized into evidence. Damages to the school were estimated to be $450.00

The third report was filed around 7:00 p.m. Monday by officials with SEC Trucking Company, located at 1905 North Mahr Avenue.

Tracy Gobble reported finding that someone had vandalized two semi trailers parked in a lot off Liberty Avenue. The word “Shedd” was also found spray painted on one of the trailers, along with derogatory phrases, a skull and a lightning symbol.

Damages at the trucking company were estimated to total $1,800.

Each of the cases remains under investigation through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division at the current time. Anyone who has information pertinent to the investigations is encouraged to contact the department at 931-762-2276.
