Resident Reports Home Burglarized During Extended Absence

A local man reported to authorities that he returned to his home Wednesday following an extended absence to find someone had burglarized his residence.

The victim reported the matter to deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department. He indicated he had been away from his home for a three-month period, from February 18 until May 18, due to the hospitalization of a relative.

When he returned Wednesday morning, the man said he found that someone had cut the power supply to his meter. Inside, he found that the culprit had rummaged through drawers and tossed his clothing about.

A shop building adjacent to the residence was also burglarized. Reports show that a door was kicked off the frame.

The victim said that the only thing he had been able to identify as stolen was some copper wire. He told deputies he would conduct a full inventory to ensure nothing else was missing. Losses were initially estimated to total $520.
