Brother Arrested For Assault Of Sister

A Summertown man was arrested on assault charges Sunday after telling law enforcement officials that his sister had attacked him.

Reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department show that a concerned resident had initially alerted a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper to the altercation.

The individual reported that a man on the back porch of the home was armed with a handgun.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the Buie Road, Summertown address at 12:11 a.m. When they arrived, deputies report that the weapon had already been secured.

The resident, Edward Gene Brown, age 39, reportedly had sustained some scratches on his face.

Brown told deputies that his sister and cousin had been working for him at his home that day. He said that they were sitting around a fire, drinking beer and shots of whiskey and that the two women became involved in an argument.

He reported that when he got between the two women, his sister “turned on him.” He said that he went inside and that his sister followed and attacked him. He said that he had to “put her on the floor” and hold her down until she calmed down.

According to Brown’s statement, when next he went outside, both women were gone.

Deputies noted that there was a “substantial” amount of blood on the ground beside a vehicle that was parked just outside the back door.

When they questioned Brown about it he reportedly told them he, “Didn’t know anything about any blood being outside unless it was where he was spitting blood out of his mouth where (sister) attacked him.”

Deputies report they asked to look inside Brown’s mouth and found no sign of bleeding or injury.

A short time later, deputies spoke with the victim and report that she had been badly beaten. She told them that Brown had become angry about her husband and began beating her.

As a result of their investigation deputies returned to Brown’s home and placed him under arrest. He was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was booked under a charge of aggravated assault.

He was scheduled an initial appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on June 4, 2013.
