Lawrenceburg To Help Fund Director Of Technology Position

Members of the board that governs the City of Lawrenceburg have voted to help fund the position of Director of Information Technology through an interlocal agreement approved during a meeting Thursday.

Under the agreement approved during the bi-monthly business meeting of the Lawrenceburg Board of Mayor and Council, the city will fund $15,000 annually toward the salary of an information technology specialist who will be employed by the city only on a part-time basis.

The specialist will be considered a county employee. As such, the county will provide the remainder of all salary considerations as well as insurance, pension, and retirement benefits. The individual will be appointed by the County Executive, with approval by the County Commission.

The interlocal agreement that oversees the employment of the specialist will be effective for a period of twenty years. Either party my terminate the agreement by submitting a written notice six months prior to the beginning of a new fiscal year.

The Director will be tasked with assisting both governments with computer hardware and software matters, as well as those involving the internet.

Lawrenceburg City Administrator William McLain pointed out Thursday that once current technical services are canceled, the city will recoup $11,000. Hiring the specialist, he explained, will only cost the city $4,000 in real cost annually.

McLain recommended that council members approve the measure, saying, “I think this is going to be a great asset to the city…I think its some of the best money that could be spent.”
