Thursday Storm Confirmed As Tornado

   Officials with the National Weather Service have confirmed that a storm that passed through Lawrence County Thursday afternoon was, in fact, a tornado.

   The storm passed through around 12:30 p.m. in the Loretto area, with most damages reported in the Thornton/Clax Branch Road area. A total of four houses sustained damage - most when trees were blown atop them - and at least one barn was completely destroyed.

   Weather service officials have classified the storm as an EF-1, with winds of between 86 and 110 miles per hour. Officials stated that it remained on the ground for approximately three miles, and measured approximately 440 yards at the base.
