Chase Leads To Arrest Of Burglary Suspect

Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies apprehended a burglary suspect Tuesday after conducting a search and a chase.

Deputies were summoned to 524 West Point Road Tuesday evening where the resident reported the theft of a Direct TV system. Witnesses told deputies that Michael Paul Childress, 32, had come to Triumph Center for Men, took the system, then left in a red car, making verbal threats. Because of past incidents, directors reported Childress had been instructed not to be on the premises.

Deputies went to a couple of locations in an attempt to locate Childress. They then received a tip that he was walking along Cecil Street. When they caught up with him, deputies report Childress began to run, leading them on a chase through the neighborhood.

Childress was apprehended at the Crescent Factory Road/Windsor Drive intersection and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center. He was booked under charges of aggravated burglary, theft and evading arrest. An initial appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court was scheduled for June 16, 2011.
