Domestic Assault Causes Relative’s Heart Attack

A domestic assault investigated by area law enforcement agents late last week reportedly resulted in a relative suffering a heart attack.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched around 3:30 p.m. Friday to intervene in the domestic scuffle at a home on Fall River Road. The female resident, 22, told deputies she and her husband had become involved in the altercation after he read a text message her mother had sent that was about him. She said her husband began to grab her then pushed her onto the bed where he proceeded to punch her repeatedly in the arms and head.

When she was able to free herself, the victim said she fled across the road to the home of her grandmother. When deputies spoke with the grandmother, she reported the suspect had “got in her face,” began cursing and yelling at her, then struck her twice in the face with his fist. The assault was witnessed by a neighbor, who also gave a statement.

During the interview with the grandmother, deputies report she began to “grab her chest and said her lower back hurt.” They quickly summoned emergency medical assistance to the scene. On Saturday, deputies were notified that the grandmother had been transported and admitted to Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia. Doctors there indicated she had suffered a “stress-induced heart attack.”

As a result of the incident the husband, Ronnie Quentin Brown, 23, was arrested on two counts of domestic assault and transported to the Lawrence County Jail. Brown is scheduled for an initial appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on May 17, 2010.
