Alanna Harris Announces Candidacy

A strong sense of service to community has prompted District 13 resident Alanna Dixon Harris to announce her candidacy for Commissioner of the district.

Alanna is a Registered Nurse employed by the Lawrence County School System at Lawrence County High School as a Health Science Educator.  Her employment history includes both large and small businesses having worked as a Health Science Educator at Wayne County Technology Center, as a staff nurse and supervisor at Crockett Hospital, as a staff nurse at Centennial Medical Center and as an office nurse for Crockett Kids Pediatrics.  Harris attended Lawrence County High School and graduated from McKenzie High School.  Post high school education includes pursuing education studies at Bethel College and receiving a Degree of Nursing from Columbia State Community College.  She is critical care trained through the University of Tennessee and a Basic Life Support/CPR instructor through American Heart Association and Maury Regional Hospital.  A professional education program of study was completed at Middle Tennessee State University.  Leadership Lawrence County and 7 Habits of Highly Effective People are a part of her professional training.  Harris serves as a Regional Coordinator for Tennessee’s Health Occupations Students of America.  She believes her view of the needs of people through both the medical community and the education community  allow her to have a broad insight into the desires of the constituents of the 13th District.

Harris grew up on a farm in the Deerfield Community and is the daughter of the late Thomas L. (Buddy) and Elaine Dixon.  Her father served as a commissioner to the district beginning in 1974.  She is married to Mike Harris and they have 3 children, Katie Ridgeway, Nick Harris, Lindon “Boomer” Harris and 5 grandchildren.  Mike and Alanna attend First United Methodist Church where she sings in the choir.

As a long time resident of Lawrence County she has developed a love for the area and a desire to see it prosper.  Her vision for the county includes development of a vibrant economy, creation of jobs for our young adults which will encourage them to stay in Lawrence County, the maintenance of a safe community for all Lawrence Countians and continuation of quality education through Lawrence County Schools.    Harris believes it is important for citizens to step up and represent the residents of Lawrence County.  She stated: “Serving is never convenient but in the end is worth the inconvenience.”

In announcing her candidacy, Harris says, “I would appreciate your support and your vote.”
