Columbia Resident Killed In Crash With School Bus

A crash in the Three Oaks area Friday afternoon that involved a Lawrence County school bus and a van has resulted in the death of a Columbia woman.

The crash occurred around 3:30 p.m. on U.S. Highway 43, near the Freedom Hill Road intersection.

Officials with the Tennessee Highway Patrol report that Henrietta Priest, 51, of Columbia, was the driver of a Chevrolet Venture. Priest reportedly crossed the highway, impacting a school bus carrying thirty-four Ethridge Elementary School students.

Four students were said to have sustained minor injuries. As a precaution, the students were transported to Crockett Hospital.

Priest was pinned inside the van and emergency personnel were called upon to cut her from the vehicle. CPR was administered at the scene. Priest, too, was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The accident currently remains under investigation through the Tennessee Highway Patrol. Troopers were assisted at the scene by members of the Summertown, Ethridge and Lawrenceburg Fire Departments as well as the Lawrence County Ambulance Service.
