Residents Still Need Burn Permits Until May 15

If you or someone you know is in the clean up process in the aftermath of the April 11 tornado, or you are just in the process of doing a little spring cleaning, you should be aware that you will need to obtain a permit for any type of outdoor burning until May 15.

Officials with the local Forestry Division office have emphasized that the season during which burn permits are required will not end until Thursday, May 15. Anyone wishing to burn outdoors until that time is required to telephone the office at 766-1413. You may obtain the permit free of charge over the telephone. Obtaining a permit simply allows fire officials to know the areas in which outdoor burning will be conducted. This may assist in response times, preparedness, and the likes.

Burn permits may be obtained Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. If your call is not answered, officials instruct residents to leave a message on the answering machine. Although the office is closed for lunch, they indicate they will return calls to all who leave messages.
