Unlicensed Driver Apprehended After

A woman who had not had a valid driver license for several years was arrested Wednesday after driving to the jail to visit a relative.

An officer with the Lawrenceburg Police Department reports that he was sitting inside his squad car in the parking lot at the Lawrence County Detention Center around 7:00 p.m. when he noticed the woman parking on the street. The officer quickly confirmed that she had no valid license, and confronted her in the parking lot.

The officer reports that the woman indicated she had come to visit a relative and “had to drive.”

The woman, Rachel Ellowise Garland, 51, of 222 Greenwood Road, was charged with driving on a revoked license and violation of the financial responsibility law. She has an initial court date of June 2, 2011.
