Long Deceased Resident Is Subject Of Identity Theft

A long-deceased local resident is the listed victim in a case of identity theft for which warrants have been issued against an Alabama man.

Reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department show that Bryan McKinley Smith, age 23, of 1688 County Road 33, Killen, Alabama, was arrested through the sheriff’s department on warrants charging him with the crimes of forgery and identity theft.

Authorities allege that Smith stole checks belonging to Ruth Stancil, who died in 1997. They accuse Smith of forging checks, then passing at least two of them through businesses in Lawrence County.

Action in the matter is continuing through Lawrence County courts.
