Resident Discovers Discarded Gun And Checkbook

A resident of the Ethridge area handed over to law enforcement officials late last week a pistol and checkbook he had found discarded on the side of a roadway.

Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to speak with the Marcella Falls Road resident just before 7:30 p.m. Friday. The resident, age 27, told deputies that he had found the .38 caliber Smith and Wesson handgun lying on the side of Marcella Falls Road. He found the checkbook lying further down the roadway.

Both items were handed over to the custody of the deputies. They indicate that a weapons check through the National Crime Information Center revealed the weapon had not been reported stolen. In addition, they indicated they were unable to make contact with the listed owner of the checkbook.

Investigation into the incident is continuing at the present time.
