Local Schools Will Benefit From Stimulus Funds

In an attempt to more thoroughly integrate technology into classrooms, thousands of dollars in federal stimulus funds are being made available to Tennessee schools.

Recovery Act funds are earmarked for each school district to enhance technology in schools and thus improve learning. The effort is geared toward effectively integrating technology into classroom curriculum, to increase student achievement, and to assist student in crossing the digital divide by ensuring their technological literacy by the time they complete eighth grade.

The funding is part of the Tennessee Department of Education's proposed 2009-2010 budget, which is currently under consideration by the Tennessee General Assembly.

The allocations will be made available to school districts beginning July 1, 2009. Giles County is slated to receive $23,900; Lawrence County, $39,800 and Maury County, $65,400.
