Arrest Made In Stabbing At Bar

An arrest was made during the weekend after a man was treated for stab wounds obtained during fight outside an area bar.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were summoned to Crockett Hospital in the early hours Saturday to investigate a stabbing. The victim, age 30, had sustained two stab wounds to the abdomen.

The victim told deputies he and his brother had been at B.J.’s Bar on Powder Mill Hill when he went outside to speak with a friend. He said that he asked the man, Brian Lance Dial, 29, of 317 Second Street, Lawrenceburg, “why he had beat up his friend,” and that the discussion led to a physical altercation.

During the altercation, the victim reported he and Dial were on the ground fighting when he felt sharp pains in his abdomen. He said he went inside to seek help and his brother transported him to the hospital.

While generating a report regarding the assault, the deputy was notified by Lawrence Central Dispatch that the bar owner had confiscated the knife and that Dial had left the premises. Soon, he was notified that Dial had surrendered himself at the Lawrence County Jail.

While giving his statement, Dial reportedly stated that it was the victim who had been the aggressor, and that he had only stabbed the man while defending himself. Dial told the deputy he “stabbed him twice with a pocket knife before he got off him.”

As a result of the investigation Dial was booked through the Lawrence County Jail on one count of aggravated assault. He is scheduled for an initial appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on May 16, 2011.
