Arson incident results in considerable loss at CoOp
Lawrenceburg Now
An incident deemed to be arson resulted in thousands of dollars in loss at Lawrence Farmer’s CoOp late last week.
According to Lawrenceburg Police Department reports, officers responded to 102 Helton Drive at around 3:15 a.m. Friday to meet with members of the Lawrenceburg Fire Department who had extinguished a blaze involving a compact rubber tire loader.
The employee showed officers and fire investigators where someone had moved a pipe from the front of the loader to the battery box area. The ignition key was found to be in the “on” position.
Officers searched for a possible point of entry to the fenced area, locating a fence post that had been loosened and was leaning away from the building where the loader was parked.
They noted that the grass outside of the fence had been trampled “looking like someone had come from the railroad tracks to the point of entry.” They were unable to locate any footprints, however, due to the flow of water where the fire had been extinguished.
Damages to the loader, a Willmar brand Challenger belonging to Tennessee Farmers Cooperative in LaVergne, TN, were estimated at $23,500.
