Authorities Asked To Investigate Animal Cruelty Incident

Lawrence County law enforcement officials were summoned to initiate an investigation at a Summertown home Wednesday after a resident moved away and failed to care for her pets.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were summoned to the home at 160 Commodore Circle shortly before 4:00 p.m. The owner of the property told them that the previous female resident, age 38. had moved out of the home around three months before, leaving behind two outside dogs and an inside cat.

The owner indicated that the former resident had been providing food so that another woman could feed them. The other woman told deputies, however, that the former resident not brought food for the animals in approximately three weeks.

Deputies learned that the former resident had been staying with her mother at her Lawrenceburg home, possibly on Waterloo Street.

Investigation into the matter has been turned over to detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
