Chancellor Says Move Is Official

Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce CEO Chad Chancellor says his move to Kentucky is official – he has accepted the position.

Unofficial sources reported Tuesday that Chancellor was fielding the offer to take the reins as chief industrial recruiter in Paducah, Kentucky, however he now indicates the deal has been sealed.

A native of Mississippi, Chancellor, 28, accepted the local post in January of 2008.

Chancellor points out that he was not seeking a different position, but that he feels he can not pass up the opportunity the new job offers.

While some have expressed concerns regarding whether Chancellor will be violating the terms of his local contract by leaving, he explains that the contract terms do not prohibit him from accepting such a job.

Chancellor says he expects to begin his duties in Paducah around June 1, 2010. In the interim local officials will initiate a search for Chancellor’s replacement.

The following is the report from West Kentucky Star.com on Chancellor's hiring.

The Greater Paducah Area Development Council has chosen its next Economic Development Director to replace Wayne Sterling, who retires May 31.

According to the Paducah Sun, 28-year-old Chad Chancellor was the unanimous choice to help create jobs in Paducah.

He is currently the CEO of the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce in southern Tennessee, where he has been promoting local businesses and recruiting industry to the area. He has also worked in Mobile, AL and Waynesboro, MI, which is his hometown.

His track record of success, which includes recruiting employers to Lawrence County in spite of the down economy, made him the Council's top choice from the three finalists.
