Residents Request Passage Of “Poop Pouch” Ordinance

Lawrenceburg Commissioner Butch Morrow told other members of the commission last week that he has been approached by a number of residents who have requested that the board pass a “poop pouch” ordinance, geared toward keeping horse manure off local roadways.

Morrow broached the matter during a meeting of the Lawrenceburg Board of Mayor and Commissioners Thursday. He indicated that a number of residents had expressed discontent regarding horse manure that often litters area roadways as a result of traffic from Amish buggies.

Morrow pointed out that other areas have imposed a “poop pouch” ordinance with considerable success. He requested that no action be taken at the time, but asked that other members of the board consider whether such an ordinance should be adopted locally.

In addition, Morrow requested that commissioners consider whether age limits should be included in the city’s ordinance that governs fundraising roadblocks held within the city limits. There is currently no age specifications included in the ordinance. The ordinance does require that those holding such a roadblock acquire a permit from the city’s chief of police, and specifies that roadblocks may be held only at four intersections within the city.

Morrow requested that commissioners consider both matters and indicated he would bring it up for discussion at a later date.
