Motorists Warned Of Work Along Springer And Weakley Creek Roads Wednesday

Motorists in Lawrenceburg should be aware that road crews will be conducting some testing along two busy roadways on Wednesday.

The City of Lawrenceburg issued a notice to the public last week, indicating that crews will “proof” these roadways beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Mayor Keith Durham said last week that he had asked engineers to inspect the two roadways because of the anticipated increase in traffic expected during the Babe Ruth World Series that will be held at Bobby Brewer Park in 2015.

Street Department Superintendent Jerry Smith said that the proofing is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. so as not to hinder early morning school traffic. He said they hope to be finished by the time schools dismiss Wednesday afternoon.

Smith said that crews will drive along the roadways in fully loaded tandem dump trucks, making around three passes along each lane. This, he said, will allow them to “see what gives.” He said this method will allow them to evaluate the condition of the road beds without costly core drilling.

The work will be from the Weakley Creek Road/Highway 43 intersection, continuing to Sundance Drive, and from the Highway 64/Springer Road intersection to Weakley Creek Road.

The roadways will not be closed, however officials are urging motorists to exercise extreme caution along these roadways, or if possible take an alternate route.

The project will take approximately six hours to complete.
