Ethridge Resident Paid With Phony Money

When an Ethridge resident made his way to his banking institution in recent days to deposit the proceeds of a sale, he quickly learned that he had been paid with phony money.

The resident of Mint Springs Road stopped by the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department to report the incident Monday. He indicated that he had sold a set of 24.5 low pro tires to an acquaintance recently. In turn, the man paid the victim with eight $20 bills.

After keeping the bills on-hand for more than two weeks the victim reports he took them to the local Green Bank to make a deposit. Bank officials quickly discovered, however, that the bills were counterfeit. The scam left the victim with a loss of $160.

Detectives with the department have now been tasked with conducting an thorough investigation into the matter.
