Bites Inflicted During Domestic Altercation

A Loretto woman and her husband both reported sustaining bite injuries during the weekend after the woman’s ex-husband stopped by their home.

The female victim, age 37, told deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department that her ex-husband, with whom she shares a daughter, had stopped by their Old Florence Pulaski Road home around 4:30 p.m. Saturday. She stated that he asked her to baby sit his son from another marriage. When she refused, she told deputies he became irate.

According to the victim her ex began yelling and calling her names. When her husband heard the ruckus he came into the room to intervene and ordered the man to leave. The ex then asked the male victim to step outside “to talk,” and he complied. Once outside, however, the victims report that the ex turned and began striking the male victim.

The pair scuffled for a time in the driveway. When the female victim attempted to intervene, she told deputies her ex grabbed her left arm and bit her wrist. The male victim sustained a scrape to the forehead and a bite to the right side.

The female victim told deputies that their fifteen-year-old daughter was outside observing the ruckus. In addition, she reported that her ex had kicked his own ten-year-old son during the struggle.

The ex, John Christopher Kelley, 38, of 231 Rabbit Trail Road, was gone upon the arrival of deputies. Warrants were obtained against him, however, charging him with two counts of assault and one count of domestic assault.
