Patio Furniture, Appliances Stolen From Five Points Home

Law enforcement officials have launched an investigation in an effort to identify the culprits who broke into a Five Points area home during the weekend, making off only with a washer and dryer, and patio furniture.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the 72 Killen Branch Road home shortly after 2:00 p.m. Sunday. The resident, age 57, told deputies that she had arrived home to find that her home had been burglarized.

Deputies noted that thieves had broken a basement window from the home in order to gain access to the interior. Once inside they reportedly used a handcart to steal the victim’s Whirlpool brand washer and dryer. When they exited the home, deputies note that the burglars locked the door, then placed the damaged screen back over the window.

While deputies were taking the report, the victim realized that her wrought iron table and four chairs had been stolen from the back patio.

A neighbor told deputies that his son had noticed two individuals removing the items from the home. They made their way to the son’s home. He stated that while he had been at his father’s property on Killen Branch Road, he had seen someone drive away from the home in an older, dark-colored Jeep, with the washer and dryer. A short time later, he reported he saw the same persons leave with the patio furniture.

The witness reported that the vehicle was occupied by a male driver and one passenger. He stated that the driver, “Looked a little rough and had a beard and mustache…”

Anyone who has further information regarding the crime is urged to contact the sheriff’s department at 762-3626.
