Man Assaulted With 2x4 At Leoma Market

Law enforcement officers were summoned to intervene last week after an employee at a Leoma market reported an assault with a 2x4 in the parking lot.

The victim reported to Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies that he had stopped at Big Oak Market to get gas when he was confronted by acquaintance Glenn Earl Colvert, age 70.

The victim told deputies that Colvert attempted to punch him with his fist, but missed. He said Colvert then grabbed a 2x4 and swung it at him, missing again. He reported that he was able to catch the board and push it and Colvert away, causing him to fall.

Both men said that a money issue was what sparked the altercation.

Emergency Medical Service personnel checked an abrasion Colvert sustained to the back of his head, however no treatment was required. He was then placed under arrest on a charge of aggravated assault and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center for booking.
