Collinwood Men Hailed As Heroes After Rescuing Trio From Fiery Crash

   Two Collinwood residents are being hailed as heroes after rescuing three Lawrence County residents from the wreckage of a fiery head-on collision last weekend. .

   Tennessee Highway Patrol reports show that around 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, Cynthia Luker, 34, of West Point was eastbound in a 1995 Chevrolet Tahoe on Railroad Bed Road, near the Thompson Hollow Road intersection. Luker reportedly crossed the center line in a curve, impacting head-on a 1999 Ford Explorer driven by Iron City Resident Ronnie Potts, age 42.

   Potts, Luker and her passenger Samuel Mangum of West Point, age 2, were all trapped inside their vehicles. Reports show that Mangum was in a booster seat in the front seat of the Tahoe.

   Two Collinwood residents who live nearby heard the collision and rushed to the scene. Officials say that Dominic “Peanut” Norato and Bill Reagan began removing the three from the wreckage. While doing so, both vehicles caught fire.

   Reagan began throwing dirt on the blaze while Norato ran home, grabbed a fire extinguisher, then rushed back. They were then able to extinguish the fire.

   Luker, Mangum and Potts were all airlifted from the scene to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville with critical injuries.
