Leoma Man Charged In Athens Theft Case

A Leoma man has been arrested on theft charges in connection with crimes that occurred last month in Athens, Alabama,.

Athens authorities report that Zakary David Manchester, 22, of 268 Dunn Leoma Road was charged Monday with four counts of “breaking into and entering a vehicle” in connection with the theft of copper from several trucks belonging to Athens Utilities. In total, authorities indicate seven rolls of copper were stolen on March 24.

Members of the Athens Police Department were able to identify Manchester as a suspect in the case early on. When they were unable to locate him they sought assistance from the U.S. Marshals Gulf Cost Regional Fugitive Task Force. Members of the task force then located Manchester in Leoma. He was subsequently placed under arrest.

Once in custody, officials report Manchester waived his right to an extradition hearing and was transported to Limestone County.

Manchester currently remains jailed at the Limestone County Jail under a bond of $10,000.
