Tuesday Afternoon Crash Sends Five To Hospitals

Five of six individuals involved in a Tuesday afternoon crash in the Summertown area were taken to hospitals, two with critical injuries.

Investigating Trooper Josh Culp reported that the 5:30 p.m. crash involved a white Chevrolet Malibu transporting grandparents Paul and Lucy Gray and grandchildren Adrian Price, 13, and Austin Lewis, 8.

The Malibu, Culp said, was southbound on U.S. Highway 43. The second vehicle, a white SUV, was northbound on 43 when driver Paul Gray attempted to negotiate a turn onto Monument Road. Gray apparently pulled into the lane of travel of the SUV, causing it to impact the car on the passenger side.

Culp reported that all four occupants of the Malibu sustained injuries, as well as the driver of the SUV.

Lucy Gray and Austin Lewis were airlifted via Life Flight to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. The driver of the SUV was reportedly transported by ambulance to Crockett Hospital. Family members said that both Adrian Lewis and Paul Gray were transported by ambulance to Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia.

A third vehicle was involved in the crash, as well. A Ford F-150 was sideswiped as a result of the crash, causing only minor damages. Driver Nick Russ was uninjured.

Assisting Culp at the scene were officers with the Ethridge Police Department and Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, as well as members of the Summertown Fire Department.
