Assisted Living Resident Reports False Teeth Stolen From House

A resident of a Columbia assisted living facility reported to law enforcement officials late last week that someone had stolen items from her house in Ethridge – including her false teeth.

The victim, age 53, spoke by telephone to Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies on Friday. She indicated that she had formerly lived at her Hudson Road home with a hired caregiver.

She stated that the caregiver had transported her to her brother’s home in January where she stayed due to declining health. When the state of her health worsened, she indicated she was taken to the assisted living facility in Columbia.

The victim told deputies that she was contacted recently by a medical supply company that had previously provided the oxygen she had used at her home.

The company indicated that when employees went to her home to pick up some ten empty oxygen bottles, the bottles were missing.

A check of her home revealed that several items had been stolen, including some of her clothing, photos, and her false teeth. The victim stated that her caregiver was nowhere to be found.

Loss to the victim as far as personal items was estimated at $600. The value of the oxygen tanks was unknown.

The matter has been turned over for more thorough investigation by detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division. Anyone with information regarding the crime is encouraged to contact the department at 762-3626.
