Reward Offered In Monday Beating Of Local Man

A reward is being offered for information to assist law enforcement officials in their investigation into the Monday afternoon beating and robbery of an incapacitated motorist.

Family members report that the victim, age 29, was traveling in the area of the 600 block of Revilo Road, possibly between 3:00 and 4:30 p.m., Monday when he apparently suffered a seizure. The seizure caused the man to wreck his red Chevrolet Monte Carlo. He reportedly ran into a ditch, then ended up back on the roadway.

The victim, who suffered a stroke in October that left him suffering medical difficulties, was reportedly semi-conscious following the crash. Family members report that he “remembers hearing a guy’s voice asking if he was okay.”

According to family members, it appears that the “concerned citizen” then pulled the victim from his car, beat him severely, stole his wallet, then placed him back inside his vehicle. Officials are uncertain how long the victim remained at the scene before a passerby placed a 911 call to summon help.

Family members indicate the victim was rushed to Crockett Hospital where he remained on a ventilator for 1 ½ days. He is now recuperating from his injuries.

“We would really like to thank the person who called 911,” says sister Kim, “I’m sure she saved his life.”

Authorities are seeking any information individuals may have regarding the events. They request that anyone traveling in the area, who may have noticed the red Monte Carlo, contact detectives with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department at 762-3626. Any information will be greatly appreciated.
