Authorities Working To Identify Thieves Who Stole Trailer

Local authorities are conducting an investigation in an attempt to identify the individuals who stole a trailer from a Waynesboro Highway property.

On Monday, the victim reported to deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department that his black, sixteen-foot dual axle trailer, with an orange spray rig, had been stolen from his shop.

The trailer was black in color with “Cotter” on the back of both fenders. He said the fenders had been bent upwards on the back.

The victim told deputies that he had stopped by Grimes Recycling to see whether anyone had attempted to sell the trailer, and learned that an employee had possibly spotted it and the thieves Friday evening.

The witness told deputies that he had taken his son fishing at a creek on Gibbs Road when he saw a four-door truck and a trailer matching the description given. He said the truck was pulled onto the side of the roadway and two white males were attempting to change a flat tire on the trailer.

The investigation is currently on-going. Loss is approximately $2,500.
