Ethridge Resident Targeted In Identity Theft

An Ethridge man discovered he had become a victim of identity theft after he was contacted by a lawyer’s office last week regarding an unpaid telephone bill.

The victim told Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies Thursday that he had received the call the previous evening. When he checked his messages, he discovered the call and quickly placed a return call.

The caller indicated he represented a New York, New York law firm. He informed the victim that there was an unpaid telephone bill in the victim’s name totaling $2,313.42. The service was obtained through T-Mobile with two phones bearing the area code 407, issued through the State of Florida.

The victim told deputies that he had not been the one who obtained the service; that it had been obtained fraudulently.

The matter remains under investigation at the current time
