Hire YOUth! Summer Program Begins May 1, 2009

The South Central TN Workforce Alliance is announcing the Hire YOUth! Summer Program for disadvantaged youth ages 14 to 24. The program is funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Youth will work between May 1, 2009 and September 30, 2009.

Participants selected for the program can earn a minimum of $7.25 per hour. Tonja Garrett, Program Coordinator states, “The work experience with private and public employers will give young people a taste of the working world, exposure to career opportunities and an understanding of how school is connected to economic success.”

Jan McKeel, Executive Director for the South Central TN Workforce Alliance states, “We are so excited to offer our emerging workforce meaningful work in both the private and public sector. Work experience is the
link between school and career, and this program gives employers an opportunity to provide much needed on the- job mentoring.” Interested youth can visit any of the TN Careers Centers for an eligibility/ application packet. The Lawrence County Center is located at 700 Mahr avenue in Lawrenceburg.
