Federal Stimulus Funds Earmarked For LPD

Officials with the Lawrenceburg Police Department have announced that more than $55,000 in federal stimulus funds has been earmarked for that department.

In a press release issued Thursday officials pointed out that the department has been scheduled to receive Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Association Grant Program funds totaling $55,302.

Officials report that the funds will be used to install in-car camera systems in ten patrol units. Outdated, non-functioning cameras will be replaced in six patrol cars, while the funds will also allow for the installation of cameras into four units not currently outfitted with such equipment.

The cameras are beneficial to the department, they explain, in the investigation into complaints made against police officers, for training purposes, evidence collection during traffic stops, and for testimony in court cases.

Anyone who has questions regarding the grant funds is encouraged to contact Assistant Police Chief Darren Goolsby at 762-2276 or City Administrator William McLain at d762-4459.
