Waynesboro Man Assaulted On Lawrenceburg Street

A Waynesboro man sought medical attention Wednesday, reporting he had been assaulted Monday night while walking along a Lawrenceburg street.

The victim, a thirty-one-year-old resident of Waynesboro’s Brock Hollow Road, sought medical care at Crockett Hospital for an injury to his leg. He told hospital personnel he had sustained the injury when he was “jumped” by two men around 9:00 p.m. Monday.

The victim reported to Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies that he had been walking near the Buffalo Road/May Street intersection when he was approached by the two men. He said they asked him “what click he was in,” referring to a red hat he was wearing.

When he informed them he was with no “click,” the victim said one of the men struck him in the leg with a baseball bat. The second subject, he told deputies, was not involved in the assault.

The victim told deputies he had not immediately sought medical attention. He said that he decided to have his leg examined when he began having difficulty walking.

Investigation into the matter is continuing through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division. Anyone who has information regarding the crime is encouraged to contact the department at 762-3626.
