Indictment Issued In Crash That Claimed Lives Of Two Teens

A Lawrence County Grand Jury has opted to return indictments against a Lawrenceburg man, charged in connection with a November crash that claimed the lives of two teenagers.

Misty McWhorter, 17, of Leoma, and Devin Prince, 15, of Lawrenceburg died as a result of injuries they sustained in the November 26, 2010 crash. According to reports filed through the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the single vehicle crash occurred around 9:00 p.m. near the crossroads on Fall River Road.

Reports indicated driver Terry Gibson, 22, of Lawrenceburg, was northbound when he lost control of the 1999 Pontiac GrandAm in a curve. When the car left the roadway, Trooper Kyle Burleson reported that Gibson overcorrected, ran off the roadway a second time, then struck a mailbox and a fence.

Gibson sustained injuries in the crash, as did passengers Blake Clem, 15, and Sarah Burkes, 21, of Summertown. All three were airlifted from the scene.

Gibson was booked through the Lawrence County Jail on November 27 on one count of vehicular homicide. He was arrested Wednesday on a capias warrant issued by the grand jury, charging him with two counts of vehicular homicide and two counts of vehicular assault.

Gibson is scheduled to answer the charges through Lawrence County Circuit Court on May 2, 2011.
