Man Charged With DUI In Wake Of Hit And Run

A Lawrenceburg man was jailed on DUI charges after allegedly becoming involved in a hit and run accident while intoxicated last week.

Shawn Christopher Brooks, 29, of 1000 Clearview Avenue, was booked through the Lawrence County Jail on charges of DUI, violation of the implied consent law, open container and insurance laws,  and leaving the scene of an accident.

The other driver involved in the accident, Bryan Elliott Davis, reported to Lawrenceburg Police Officers that he had been traveling along Fall River Road near the Hayes Road intersection when Brooks veered into his lane and struck his vehicle.

When Brooks failed to stop, Davis said he turned and follow him. He continued to follow Brooks, speaking with a dispatcher, until police officers made it to their location on Weakley Creek Road.

Officers report Brooks was unable to perform satisfactorily on field sobriety tests. An open container of beer was found inside the vehicle along with a twelve-pack with several cans missing.

Brooks is scheduled for an initial appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on May 6, 2010.
