Resident Reports Caller Tried To Obtain Banking Info
Law enforcement officers initiated an investigation during the weekend after an Iron City resident reported someone had attempted to obtain her banking information over the telephone.
The victim summoned deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department to her South Roberson Road home shortly before 1:00 p.m. Friday.
She reported she had received a telephone call from an individual who claimed to represent Wells Fargo. The victim told deputies she has a private telephone number and was uncertain how the caller could have obtained the number.
The victim indicated that the caller requested her date of birth as well as her bank account information. She told deputies that she was not forthcoming with the information, and that she terminated the call.
Investigation into the matter has been now turned over to detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
