Damages Caused By Monday Storms

A storm moving through the area Monday afternoon brought with it extremely strong winds, causing damages in various parts of the county.

Lawrence County Schools dismissed at 12:30 in anticipation of dangerous weather conditions. Shortly afterward residents kept vigilant watch over television and internet radar and an ear to local radio stations. Heavy rains pelted the region, as well as some hail.

Damages were reported in various parts of the county, including downed trees in Three Oaks and downed power lines along Rabbit Trail Road.

Although at the storms greatest intensity numerous tornado warnings were being issued only moments apart, no tornadic activity was reported.

Throughout Tennessee damages were reported in twenty-one counties. At least three schools sustained damage and some injuries were reported, as well.

A tornado watch remains in effect until 6:00 p.m., with a wind advisory set to expire at 7:00 p.m.
