Thieves Remove Copper From Burned Home

A local man filed a complaint with law enforcement officers Tuesday after discovering that thieves had targeted his home that had recently burned.

The victim, age 22, called deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department to a home on White Oak Drive in Leoma at around 3:30 p.m. He reported that the home had burned some weeks prior and that he had stopped by to check his mail.

While at the home, the victim said he noticed some copper wire that had been placed outside the house. He said he checked inside and discovered that thieves had removed a considerable amount of copper wire from the remaining structure.

The resident said that the door had not been locked and deputies noted no sign of forced entry. Loss as a result of the crime is estimated to total approximately $1,050.
