Scare Tactic Lands Neighbor In Jail

A Morgan Road resident who opted to use a scare tactic to startle a neighbor with whom he was engaged in an ongoing feud, was subsequently arrested in connection with the attack.

Barry Allen Redden, age 45, of 13 Morgan Road, was taken into custody shortly after 1:30 p.m. on charges of domestic assault and vandalism.

According to reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department a neighbor reported that he had been cutting grass at 3 Morgan Road, when Redden approached in his 1978 Ford truck. He told deputies that Redden driven down the driveway, leaving the driveway to speed directly toward him. He indicated that as he approached, Redden accelerated, spinning his tires, causing damage to the yard, and narrowly avoiding a collision with the victim and his lawnmower.

Once the truck came to a stop, the victim said Redden exited his truck and engaged him in a verbal confrontation.

While on the scene, deputies reported seeing Redden traveling in the described truck. They indicate that Redden turned his vehicle down the victim’s driveway “before turning back onto the road in order to avoid me.”

The reporting deputy reports he attempted a traffic stop on Redden’s truck, but instead of stopping, Redden accelerated and attempted to evade the deputy. The deputy reports he pursued Redden for approximately one mile before he came to a stop along Morgan Road.

Redden was placed under arrest and transported to the Lawrence County Jail without further incident. He is slated to answer the charges against him through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on Monday, April 13, 2009.
