Thieves Target Hood Road Area

Four wheelers were the hot item overnight Monday when thieves targeted homes along as stretch of South Hood Road.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were first dispatched to the 330 South Hood Road home of Justin Andrew Lenhert Monday morning. Lenhert reported his red, Honda Fourtrax four wheeler had been stolen around 4:00 a.m.

Lenhert told deputies his mother heard someone start the four wheeler around 4:00 a.m. She did not look out, however, because she assumed Lenhert was going to check on the cows.

Lenhert found that his four wheeler had been abandoned nearby, in front of 248 South Hood Road. The fender area had sustained damage, and the key was missing. Loss and damages were estimated at $900.

At 248 South Hood Road resident Timothy Dunlop reported someone had burglarized his property overnight, as well.

Two outbuildings, one vehicle, a cargo trailer and a travel trailer had all been entered and searched. While nothing appeared to be missing, Dunlop reported nearly $500 in damages.

A resident of 227 South Hood Road next filed a theft complaint with deputies. Stan Selver reported a 2006 Polaris Sportsman four wheeler had been taken from his home around 6:30 a.m. He told deputies he heard his driveway alarm sounding at that time. When he looked out, however, Selver said he did not see anyone.

While checking his home, Selver discovered the four wheeler missing from his attached garage. The garage door, he said, had been left open.

In addition to the four wheeler, Selver reported he had stored a small .45 pistol inside one of the saddle bags. His loss is estimated to total $5,200.

Each of the cases has been turned over for more in-depth investigation by detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division. Anyone who has pertinent information is urged to contact the department at 762-3626.
