Mom Charged In Connection With Statutory Rape Case

Note:  the identity of the mother has been withheld in order to protect the identity of the young victim.

Not only the man involved, but the mother of a young teen has garnered charges in connection with a statutory rape case investigated by local authorities during the weekend.

Reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department show that the mother of the thirteen-year-old girl had left her two children to go to a bar Saturday evening. She reported the girl missing around 4:00 Sunday morning. A search was then conducted by law enforcement officials in an attempt to locate the youngster.

Eventually the girl was located at a Busby Road, Loretto, home where officials indicate she was sleeping with a twenty-year-old man.

The man told deputies that, prior to their sexual encounters, the girl had claimed to be nineteen years of age.

Due to circumstances that came to light during the investigation warrants were obtained against the girl’s mother, charging her with the crime of child neglect. In addition, warrants were obtained charging the man with the crime of statutory rape.

Deputies made contact with social workers with the Department of Children’s Services. An investigation has subsequently been launched through that department.
