Opposition To Privatization Of State Park Ops And Services Voiced By Leaders

Local opposition to inquiries regarding privatization of various aspects of several Tennessee parks will be passed along to state lawmakers.

During a meeting Tuesday members of the Lawrence County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to pass along a resolution drafted on the subject.

The resolution urges State Senator Joey Hensley and State Representatives Barry Doss and Vance Dennis, “To oppose privatizing of operations of state parks and services at various state parks.”

The resolution was drafted after officials with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation requested information from private venders about leasing and management in connection with eleven state parks, including David Crockett State Park.

The resolution to be forwarded to the legislators states that, “Privatization of operations has potential for loss of accessibility, higher fees for use of park facilities, loss of programs offered, and may result in layoffs for employees of the park, all of which would adversely affect the citizens and economy of Lawrence County.”
