Bomb Threat Closes Courthouse Thursday

Law enforcement officials reported Thursday afternoon that a call indicating that a bomb had been placed inside the Lawrence County Courthouse was simply a hoax.

The bomb threat was received at WDXE radio station. Station officials quickly notified authorities and emergency procedures were initiated.

A press release issued by Sheriff Jimmy Brown indicates that all persons were evacuated from the building. They then requested the assistance of the Tennessee Highway Patrol Special Operations Unit.

Once members of the unit were on scene a thorough sweep was conducted with the aid of K-9s specially trained to detect explosives. Brown reports the building was cleared around 3:00 p.m.

Although offices at the courthouse had been closed for the day, Brown said business is scheduled to resume as normal Friday morning.
