Police Asked To Investigate Home Burglaries

Law enforcement officials have been summoned to investigate a number of home burglaries in the Leoma area during recent days.

On Friday agents with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the 393 Rabbit Trail Road home of Lennie Dwight Knowles. Knowles told deputies that a safe was missing from inside his house.

The safe, which had been concealed inside a bedroom closet, reportedly contained $15,000 in cash, $20,000 worth of jewelry, and his car and truck titles. Total loss is $35,140.

Deputies were dispatched to 99 Second Creek Road on Saturday where they spoke with victim Ed Hughes. He reported someone had come to a home on the property and stolen several items.

Hughes indicated the home had been vacant since 1996, but that he had come there to cut the grass. While there, he noticed an air conditioning unit was missing.

Further investigation revealed that a number of light fixtures had been pilfered, along with copper wiring, fuses, a refrigerator, sink, coffee table, and the back door and frame. Loss was estimated to total $675.00.

On Sunday deputies made their way to the 41 East Richardson Road home of Vernon Lee Sides. Sides reported that while he had been attending church services that morning, someone had kicked in his back door and stolen his medication. The only item missing was a bottle that contained around 12 Lortab tablets.

Investigation into the burglaries is continuing currently by detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division. Anyone who has information pertinent to these investigations is urged to contact the department at 762-3626.
