Arrest Made In Saturday Night Hit And Run Crash

A Lawrenceburg man was arrested Saturday night becoming involved in a hit and run crash, then physically assaulting his pregnant girlfriend.

David Thomas Robertson, 21, 268 Waterloo Road, was arrested shortly before midnight on charges of hit and run, driving on a suspended driver license, and violation of the state insurance and registration laws.

At 11:00 p.m. officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department were summoned to the intersection of Seventh Street and First Avenue.

The victim reported while he was stopped at the stop sign another motorist struck his vehicle, then fled from the scene. He told officers that as the male driver drove away, he as drinking a beer.

Around an hour later officers were dispatched to 428 Sixth Street regarding a report that someone at the home wished to harm himself.

They arrived to find that the matter was actually a domestic assault. Reports show the suspect, Robertson, had fled out the back door on foot when officers arrived on the scene.

The female assault victim told officers that she had been inside the car when Robertson crashed into the victim’s truck at the intersection. She stated that they had been to a friend’s house earlier where Robertson had consumed alcohol. She said that she had driven to Sixth Street, but that Robertson got the keys to drive them to a liquor store. They were en route when the crash occurred.

After fleeing the scene, the victim reported that Robertson took the car to his mother’s home to hide it and they got a ride back to Sixth Street. She said that they began to argue because he wished to take some of her medication.

She told officers that during the altercation Robertson ripped her purse from her grip, pushed her down onto the couch, put his knee on her stomach, then began punching her in the face with his fist.

She said he fled when he saw that officers had arrived. The victim told officers that she has been pregnant for around one month. Officers noted that she had sustained assault marks about her face.

Officers were unable to locate Robertson at that time. He was arrested later that night, however, when he returned to the Sixth Street home.

Robertson is scheduled for an initial appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on April 1, 2011.
